Fran Courtney is a traditional potter specialising in hand pressed foliage dishes. She holds an honours degree from Nottingham University and has exhibited widely at various exhibitions and shows in the South East of England. Her work covers many diverse items including natural forms and she collects all kinds of leaves from hollyhocks to elephants ear, and even cabbage and cauliflower leaves to create her own unique signature bowls. The leaves are often grown from her own garden, or gathered while exploring Hastings, Rye or Pett, her favourite walking places. She also makes foliage faces, the famous "Green Man' of East Sussex. Each piece is totally unique, pressed from a real leaf and finished with hand mixed glaze. Fran even digs her own clay from Fairlight, where it is known to be lighter in hue and beautifully suited to offer a lovely delicate colour to the finished piece. Fran can even press a bespoke piece with your own special leaves to create a truly special gift or momento, please enquire at the gallery for further details.
