Tom is a successful Plein Air Painter exhibiting work at various galleries across the U.K, with work accepted for the Royal Society of Marine Artists and Royal Society of Oil Painters exhibited at the Mall Galleries. His earliest memory of painting was aged five with his father on a windy hill overlooking Wellington Harbour in New Zealand. His Father was painting the ships coming into dock whilst Tom tried to capture the wind in the tall grasses with felt tip markers. His love of Plein Air was born, and he went on to study a degree in Illustration and fine art with the University of Kent at Canterbury.
"The natural landscape in New Zealand with it’s beautiful light and big skies has been a cornerstone of my visual memory, and whilst the English Landscape that I now paint is very different, it still sits under the same sun and during my painting process it is always the light that will ultimately bless the painting. And of course without light there are no shadows. These two elements are the building blocks of all my compositions. I now paint exclusively with oil paint and in the plein air style. Painting outdoors gives me the purest sense of immersion and capture." - Tom Marsh
